The Green School Initiative (GSI) scheme was launched in Chennai in 2007-08 and has since been expanded to include Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ooty, Puducherry and Mysore. Each city has a Green School award winner. This year’s Green School-Bengaluru award goes to Sarathy English School, J.P. Nagar, Bengaluru.
Shri. B. Basappa, IFS, Director General, Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), Bengaluru gave away the Green School Initiative Award 2009 to Sarathy English School, Bengaluru. The Principal, Ms. R. Uma received the award in the presence of Prof. A.N. Vijaya Murthy, Principal, M.E.S. College of Teacher Education and Dr. Nanditha Krishna, Director, C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre, Chennai delivered the Keynote address.
As part of Ozone Day Celebrations, a programme was organised at M.E.S. College of Teacher Education, Rajaji Nagar, Bengaluru on September 16, 2009. Mr. P. Sudhakar, Joint Director, C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre, Chennai delivered a lecture on Protective umbrella in the skies – Ozone layer and its importance.
