C. P. R. Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC) observed World Environment Day 2008 by organizing a discussion on the topic – ‘Global Warming & Local Responses’.

Importance of Biodiversity in Combating Climate Change
Dr. S. Balaji, I.F.S., (Chief Conservator of Forests & Member Secretary, State Forest Commission, and Government of Tamilnadu) delivered the Keynote Address. In his address, he highlighted the vital role that local actions play in addressing global environmental issues such as climate change. . Earlier, Dr. Nanditha Krishna, Hon. Director, CPREEC welcomed the gathering. She stressed on the need to cut down the use of fossil fuels and chalk out alternatives (such as wind energy) that have minimum impact on the environment.
Mrs. Lalitha Ramadurai, Project Officer (ENVIS), CPREEC also made a presentation titled ‘Climate Change – An Indian Perspective’. Dr.T.Sundaramoorty, Head-Biodiversity Division, CPREEC, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
