National Seminar on Conservation of Eastern Ghats

The ‘Chennai Statement’ on the Conservation of
Eastern Ghats was released by His Excellency,
Shri. Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamilnadu.
 

A two-day National Seminar on the Conservation of Eastern Ghats was held during December 28 - 29, 2007 at Chennai. The Seminar was organised by the Environment Protection, Training and Research Institute [EPTRI], Hyderabad along with the C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre [CPREEC], Chennai; the Forest and Ecology Division, National Remote Sensing Agency [NRSA], Hyderabad and others.

The Seminar dealt with the biological, physical and socio-economic aspects of the Eastern Ghats including an overview on programmes & policies and information systems relevant to the area endowed with a large variety of biological species, geological formulations and indigenous populations. Scholars from various disciplines presented papers during the Seminar. It is earnestly hoped that the scientific community as well as the Government would benefit by the data and analysis provided in the papers.
