The book titled “Green Healers – Medicinal Plants of India” written by Mr.P.Sudhakar, joint Director, CPREEC was released on August 10, 2007 by Shri. R. Mehta, Adviser, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi. The book features 112 plants / herbs with photographs, common (English) names, Tamil names, botanical names, family, parts used and their therapeutic uses as well as an index of common ailments.
The highlighting feature of the book is that the plants / herbs mentioned are either commonly consumed by people in their day to day lives and are available in abundance growing as neglected vegetation near human habitations. The book is an attempt to educate the masses about household herbal remedies to health problems ranging from common cold to severe illnesses such as chronic asthma and jaundice. |
